VISIT TO NATIONAL HANDICRAFT MUSEUM

The National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum (NHHM) commonly known as National Crafts Museum in New Delhi is one of the largest crafts museums in India. It is run by the Ministry of TextilesGovernment of India

The museum is situated on the corner of the Pragati Maidan, facing the Purana Qila complex. The trip to the National Crafts Museum was an unforgettable experience. Here students got a glimpse of the real India. When we reached the crafts museum, there were four “demons” to welcome us. Of course, not the real ones but giant terracotta figurines of Aiyanar, the male village guardian deity in south India. At the entrance of the museum we saw adorable madhubani paintings on huts.As we went deeper into the museum,we saw artisans from across the country exhibiting their wares and artifacts. The crafts museum was designed by eminent French architect Charles Correa. Next,we went to the village complex in the museum. Here we found different types of dwellings — kullu hut, gonda hut, pigeon hut and so on.Students of Class 3 to 5 (PRIMUS) visited NHHM on 2.11.17 For students it was a learning experience and the purpose of the trip was to bring us closer to our rich heritage and culture.
