Happy Vasant Panchmi

Vasant Panchami is an important Indian festival celebrated every year in the month of Magh according to the Hindu calendar. Celebrated on the fifth day of Magh, the day falls somewhere in the months of February or March according to the Gregorian calendar. The significance of the day lies in the worship of Goddess Saraswati, symbol of wisdom and also the onset of spring season. The color yellow is the predominant color associated with the festival, the origins of which are supposed to be the fields of mustard which can be seen in Punjab and Haryana during this period. Kite flying is also commonly associated with this festival. Children as well as adults fly kites on this day to celebrate freedom and enjoyment. Another tradition associated with this day is that of initiating studies in the young. Republic day is one of the prominent national festival celebrated every year on January 26 with utmost enthusiasm and the zeal. This year India will celebrate its 71st Republic Day and preparations for the same are on full swing across the country. It was on Republic Day the Indian Constitution came into force and the country was declared as the largest democracy in the world. After India gained Independence from the British rule on August 15, 1947, it was felt that there was a need for a written constitution to run the country systematically. After this, a committee was formed, which was headed by Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar to draft the constitution. The first draft of the constitution was submitted on November 4, 1947, but it took exactly 2 years, 11 months and 18 days to finally adopt the Constitution with the necessary amendments. कक्षा तीसरी के  छात्रों को पाठ बूआ का पत्र से संबंधित गतिविधि करवाई गई जिसमें बच्चों ने पिस्ता व मूंगफली के छिलकों से कुछ जीव-जंतु  जैसे चूहा, मधु मक्खी, चींटी, तितली आदि पेड़ और फूल बनाए।

Happy Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti  is a very auspicious day in Hindu customs. Throughout India, people celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm and fervor. Devotees visit temples early in the morning after a ritual bath and pray to God asking for blessings for the whole family. Makar Sankranti  marks the transition of the Sun into the zodiac sign of Makara rashi (Capricorn) on its celestial path. The day is also believed to mark the arrival of spring in India and is a traditional  festival . According to the Hindu calendar,  Makar Sankranti  is also celebrated as the harvest festival and marks the arrival of spring. The day is synonymous to  kite flying  too. People across India are seen on their roof tops and sky fills up with colourful  kites .

Lohri Celebration

 The Festival of Lohri marks the beginning of the end of winter and the coming of spring and the new year.  The Lohri of north India coincides with Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Makar Sankranti in Bengal, Magha Bihu in Assam, Tai Pongal in Kerala, all celebrated on the auspicious day of Makar Sankranti. There are some interesting socio-cultural and folk-legends connected with Lohri. According to the cultural history of Punjab, Bhatti, a Rajput tribe during the reign of Akbar, inhabited parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat (now in Pakistan). Dulla Bhatti, Raja of Pindi Bhattian, was put to death by the Mughal king for revolting against him. The tribal mirasis (street singers) trace the history of the tribe and interestingly, claim Maharaja Ranjit Singh as one of its scions.Dulla Bhatti, like Robin Hood, robbed the rich and gave to the poor.
