Republic Day 2020
Republic day is one of the prominent national festival celebrated every year on January 26 with utmost enthusiasm and the zeal. This year India will celebrate its 71st Republic Day and preparations for the same are on full swing across the country.
It was on Republic Day the Indian Constitution came into force and the country was declared as the largest democracy in the world. After India gained Independence from the British rule on August 15, 1947, it was felt that there was a need for a written constitution to run the country systematically. After this, a committee was formed, which was headed by Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar to draft the constitution. The first draft of the constitution was submitted on November 4, 1947, but it took exactly 2 years, 11 months and 18 days to finally adopt the Constitution with the necessary amendments. It was on November 26, 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India formally adopted the Constitution of India. However, it came into force on January 26, 1950. Since then India celebrates Republic Day on January 26 as
The constitution declares India a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic, assuring justice, equality, liberty and promoting fraternity to all its citizens.
